yes, it is a school night.
no, i don't care :P

if you can't make it, then convince others they can.

roughly four months ago i set out on yet another theatrical journey in the guise of 'director'. i can't say it has been the best experience i have had. i can't even say it was remotely enjoyable. in fact, i can't say very much about it at all without offending someone (possibly even myself). the only definite things i can say about it: it was 'a journey' and 'an experience'. it is possibly best for me to not comment on it at all really.

so, four months ago i set out on this directorial journey, collecting bad vibes and hint of tourettes, in an attempt to figure out how to turn fully grown human beings into mice while an entire audience is watching (quite literally smoke and mirrors - minus the mirrors). along the way i clashed with egos, 'stalwart'-itis, and a significant pile of 'i know more than you', however, despite these obsticles, it would appear that i have pulled something together that works. outsiders who have witnessed the 'almost there' versions of the show are impressed, and really, what more do you want to hear as a director?

blah! i am so over this thing. thank whatever deities it's hitting the stage today, because quite frankly, i don't think i could have successully handled one more week of it.

please ignore the angst in this post, and come along (if you can) to:

been in the recording 'studio' for most of today. some decent progress has been made.

began work on a new song i've not bothered to record before "The Violin". unfortunately, until i can get hold of a violin and perhaps someone who can play it well and is able to create a great violin part by ear (as i don't write, nor can i read, music), i'll have to make do with my dodgy keyboard wank. sounds alright so far (the song); despite only working on it for, perhaps an hour at most.

spent the majority of this evening adding to one of my faves. it's a track called "Johnny Says" and was written a couple of new years ago at pots' mates house in melbourne. it amuses me that this collaboration has such an ecclectic range of musicians. there's pots: who's a country guitarist, with roots in johnny cash, merle travis and chet atkins; tt slim: who's a hardcore muddy waters blues kinda guy, with some country colour in the shape of johnny cash and hank williams; and then there's me: the folk popstress with a bizarre list of influences that range from tupac and eminem, to elton john, cat stevens(aka yusuf islam), the scissor sisters and panic! at the disco (just to name a few). so, for a song that is essentially an ode to Johnny Cash, i was the least likely to actually go anywhere with it, but as fate would have it, i'm the only one of us who has bothered to put this thing to tape. so we've got this folk/pop ode to The Man in Black, which sounds kinda awesome, and yet totally bizarre. there is still a great deal of work to be done on it, and tonight i managed to squeeze out some decent harmonies, before i started tiring.

when pots returns from holiday, he's going to start a-tweaking it and adding his own little bits to it. i'm going to get him to tidy up my bass line as a beginning. i'm no bassist (and it shows), but i'm still kinda proud that i made this up all on my own and that it almost sounds good.

anyone wanting a small taste of the unmastered, unharmonised, completely raw version, wander on over to my myspace profile and check it out. while you're there, have a listen to "Gollum's Lament" and tell me what you think.

if you clicked and listened and liked, then why not have a shot at watching me do them live?

I'M GOING TO BE PLAYING A ONE HOUR SET!!!!

bring friends, significant others, wheelchair bound grandmothers, and perhaps that guy with the face from the other night (you know who i mean :P) and join me and Pots as we strut our stuff on stage!

all are welcome. seriously. i don't care, it's a pub, they like the money more than i do. if you can make it, come along and take a peek at my stuff, seeing as i'm too lazy or fucked up from my monday shift to get around to recording anything.

YOU WILL BE REMINDED!

~Kits~ (her first paid gig for 2007)
after lots of lazing around and creative nothingness, Kitsunegari now has her own space.

it's still being worked on and will prolly going through a series of changes as my mind changes, but it's there.

i've even created a bio. wow. i feel sucked of creative juices right now.

i know of a lot of problems with it, but any others you spot....

~Kits~ (finally on the intarweb!)
dear livejournal

why does today have to be the first day of the worst 14 of my year? why can't we be permitted to rehearse for at least one more week and start next monday instead? bump in/tech/dress rehearsal on saturday was a shambles, but not like most technical rehearsals. no, by far this is the scariest opening day i've ever had the (dis)pleasure of being involved in. let's cross our fingers and hope that the luck fairy is on our side and todays show isn't a complete balls up like it's been shaping up to be. i really do hope the luck fairy is unusually generous today.

for those who are unaware: i'm working (ha!) at StageDoor doing yet another kids show. THE EMPERORS NEW CLOTHES, opens today at 11am and will start at that time EVERY DAY for the next FOURTEEN DAYS STRAIGHT! i'd recommend sleeping in until midday or going to work or whatever. but, if you're so inclined: tix are $15 which includes light snackage. Call StageDoor for more info, i've managed to get rid of all the flyers i had.

i shall continue caffienating, and then leave the house and hope that my lines stay in my head long enough to get me thorugh the first gruelling two hours of the fortnight.

after this show. i am taking a well deserved break. so: from JULY 10 til AUGUST 26 i shall be available for early nights and long lie ins. unless something intervenes.
and from JULY 5 til JULY 18, i shall be without child or significant other.

LET'S HANG!
