i'm tired thanks to a small person deciding that 6am is a good "playtime" hour and that 3am is a perfect breakfasting hour. this shall make todays wedding interesting, more so because of the threat of more storms on the horizon later. with luck the weather will hold until after the ceremony is complete and the photographs have been taken, and everyone is making their way to their various eating places before heading to the bowls club for the reception and barefoot bowls.

my inner monkey is telling me to have some breakfast, i guess i shall go eat some breakfast...after i chase my outer monkey.

a short video of the storm from last night as it headed out to sea. just be warned that the soundtrack contains profanity and is considered NSFW - so turn off your sound and you'll be fine! =D  )

i took this with my trusty mobile phone! how smegging awesome is that?
oh, and i should not be permitted to talk on the soundtrack of a homemade video clip, it's quite obviously a wrong thing.

blokenstein is to be no more! [ wails ]

the majority don't have a clue what i'm talking about, but for those few who know of it, this is a tragedy befitting of a state funeral.

as a friend put it "It's the final sign the end is nigh and our youth is over".

many an awesome night was spent there. rivers of alcohol have been consumed, innumerable games of kings have been played, and i'm almost certain more flesh than a roman bath house has been seen. the party house of youthful undulgence is to become no more.

december 19 marks the final foray into the world that is castle blokenstein. i never thought this day would come this soon. it was inevitable yes, but it just seems so sudden. here's to a top place with many memories caked to its termite ridden foundations, staining the walls and ceiling and most likely clogging the drain in the shower downstairs.

i'm now curious to know what arian and druscilla's new place shall be called...and where exactly it is.

i love rain, i really really do. this may have something to do with my scottish background, it may not, whatever the reason: i love rain.

in a relation to my previous post about the weather, i hate that folk around brisbane like to bitch regardless of the weather. "oh noes, it's too hots". "poo with this rain, can't it just feck off?" "brrrrrr, it's tooo cold!" (though it be mid teens!) there's no satisfying these people. there are times when they're worse than poms! and it's common knowledge that poms like to whinge, i know many (the "being a brit" think helps there ;) ).

the worst part of it at the moment is the fact that we're in a severe water shortage. so, the more rain we get (and preferably in catchment areas) the better! but that doesn't stop people from having a cry when there is even the first sign of a hint of drizzle. as soon as the sky goes grey brisbane folk are grabbing for their car keys and clogging the roadways because it might rain. nine times out of ten it doesn't: that's essentially a fact. this doesn't stop the morons of my home town being tools.

in relation to the "severe water shortage", am i the only person in this "gosh darn it"* city who thinks the relaxation of water restrictions was fucking daft? just because we hit 40% total storage for THREE (count them, THREE) dams doesn't mean we should be allowed to start 'being silly' with the water again. all that means is that the 'reserves' are going to be used up quicker. is bligh really that much of fuck wit? i'm still more annoyed that the "recycled water plant" is servicing a fucking POWER STATION!!! and not the dams! WTF does a POWER STATION need with RECYCLED water? SFA as far as i'm concerned, that water should be for us to consume as water consumers; from drinking to cooking et al...but NO! they feed it to the hydro plant. STUPIDEST IDEA EVAR! (and that's merely my opinion).

anyways, i'm more than pleased that it's raining, even if i am going to be heading out in it very shortly, umbrella in hand. i still love the rain!

it rained all day which was rather nice. i did mostly nothing. dinner was reheated leftovers, but i cooked up some fresh rice with lime and chilli and garlic butter. it was tasty. i now have a combination of kangaroo/garlic breath. i am teh sexay!

tomorrow i have to attend the post office in order to post the first of a couple of packages i need to send to friends in foreign lands. before i do that though, i think i might go to bed.

i'm sleepy and full of uninterestingness.

~Kits~ (boring today)
i kind of feel like i was the only person today who didn't whinge about the weather. i live in a sub-tropical climate, it's november...you do the math!

i did however LOVE the storm that drove through earlier. despite the devestation i know it has caused (my parent's area was affected by nasty weather, and thankfully they don't have much more damage than a broken windscreen and a fallen tree - that fell into the neighbours yard and not onto any houses), i enjoyed its ferocity. watching it come over and discussing the various shades of green the clouds turned on its travels over and the oooooh-ing and aaaaaaaah-ing at the impressive lightning displays, while sipping on fancy red wine and eating posh foodstuffs from antipasto, to pesto, to a blue vein red leicester(sp?) and homemade red pepper dip, was just amazing. i don't get to do that too often!

last night was [livejournal.com profile] haruko_fixation and her soon to be hubby's "stag and doe" party. it was lots of fun. there was heaps of retro tuneage, pool, alcohol and plenty of cuddles and random awesomeness. a very good night indeedy, even if it was all over by midnight (not my call). there was some mild discussion on the title of the new bond film "quantum of solace" and the spreading of cooties. it was a great night!

right now i'm just enjoying this glass of homebrew beer-verage and listening to the rain pitter-pattering on my roof. the main advantage of having a tin roof is the awesome sound of the rain falling on it; a combination of awesome, romance and relaxation all in one. the kind of thing you can really only get in queensland i think.

~Kits~ (can't think of anything for the parenthesis tonight)
so i'm currently sitting on my verandah, virtually locked out of my own house because pots' band are in my loungeroom recording a demo and i've been delegated "child shut-uppererererrer".
this sucks for many reasons, least of which being that i was supposed to be at a hens afternoon for my lovely friend [livejournal.com profile] haruko_fixation, but i was forcibly detained with little, acutally, NO choice in the matter. other reasons include the fact that i'm being bashed up and slobbered all over by the crawly slobbery one, and the monkey is bored shitless. it's also stinking hot, and ui have to wait until i'm certain that it's silent in the house before contemplating going to the toilet, which is quite 'inconveniently' placed at the back of the house, on the other side of the 'recording studio'. i also need a shower, which is difficult with a house full of blokes and a bathroom door that doesn't lock, or close properly for that matter.

because of this situation, i'm reminding and informing pots that i am out of the house this evening to at least pay my respects to the soon to married [livejournal.com profile] haruko_fixation and her soon to be husband. plus, i haven't seen most of these people since i first found out i was pregnant with the bee, so not being there tonight would be horrnedous on many many counts! i totally miss these guys and wish i had more time to spend on socialising. especially with another of the group vanishing off to 'greener pastures'.

hmmm, there are almost the distinct sounds of packing up going on inside, so i think it's once again safe to enter my own house! oh gods do i need a beer. and a shower. a beer in the shower! ooooh yeah! then i shall raid the penny jar and try and scrum up enough coin for a scotch or some bubbly or something alcoholic for the stag and doe party i MUST NOT MISS!

i've been trying to figure out a way to post the rough demo recording of my new song into this here blog, but for some strange and unknown reason my brain is malfunctioning and i can't figure it out...right now. perhaps a little more sleep, a decent feed and some pampering i'll be able to get it done tomorrow.

just taking it easy today. had an unexpectedly big night last night that culminated in the consumption of far too much suntory yamazaki. i've made a mental note to only consume that stuff in small doses and to never mix it with anything other than good food. plopping it down on top of a gut load of other alchohols is not recommended. especially when that shit costs in excess of $100 a bottle! tastes nice though.

i woke up with a serious case of vomit mouth. not because i had or wanted to vomit, but because the rye-ness (even though it's not a rye) of the suntory just wouldn't go away. horrible and sweet. and despite coffee and toothpaste, my breath smells a-kin to a cats bum.

cretinlink is on my back again. claiming things i know to be untrue but which i can't prove because it involved a series of phone conversations over a period of months two years ago. the whole thing is munted. [ sigh ]
so while they go on the hunt for information i can't provide personally, i can't help but feel a little attacked/insulted/annoyed.

i'm not going to bother with that shit. it's just going to make me even more pissed off than i am, and i really don't want to get that pissed off.

currently looking for a FUNCTIONAL ipod. 20gb preferred.

not all the much to write about today. have had a decidedly lazy day, with a hint of creativity. the creativity refers to the song i've just finished writing. i'm in the midst of tiding up the composition and cementing the structure, but i like how it sounds. it's fun and kind of boppy. of course the content is generally of a slightly opposite nature, but that's just me. if you wanna read it it's over at [livejournal.com profile] git_phuqd.

actually, i'm reminded now of the fact that i don't have a wall charger for that damned ipod of mine. yeah, i scored it for free i know, but that doesn't mean i can't whinge about the fact that i don't have a wall charger. i didn't need one until last night when i was "restoring factory settings" and itunes said to me "please plug your ipod into the ac madoobiewhacker to complete the task". at that moment i swore, quietly so the monkey wouldn't hear, but i swore none the less. i've already tried a couple of people i know who don't actually have a use for theirs for whatever reason (theft of product mainly), but they don't seem to know where it is, nor do they care. so hopefully tonight i'll be able to stumble across one while in jbhifi or somewhere similar. and i just worked out how to get the tracks off the bloody thing too! i'm also looking for an fm car cradle/power pack for usage as a car player. and i don't wanna have to rely on having to charge it externally of the car all the time as well, but ebay won't tell me if any of the car cradle things are suitable for 2nd gen or not.

you know, the one good thing i can think about relating to ipod is the fact that there are accessories for it coming out of my eyeballs. everywhere i look, there's an accessory for an ipod. from cases, to chargers to cables to small monkeys on a wheel used as a portable charging device! iriver: i've managed to find one of those car cigarette lighter fm tuner things so i can listen to it in my car. i don't have a case for it. the accessories on the website are all for THE LATEST IN IRIVER FASHION, ie. everything except the h10 20gb. i'm mostly over looking for stuff for it.

i'm hovering between napping and having a glass of red. but i'm supposed to be able to drive. poo. oh, and i have to renew my license tomorrow or i'm not allowed to drive after saturday until i do. stupid rules.

~Kits~ (contemplating stuff)
i'm in the process of doing at the least, two things. the first of which is typing this entry. the second being that i'm consuming my second small glass of wine in celebration of senator barack obama winning, not only his place in the whitehouse as the american president, but also his spot in history as the first BLACK american president. i spent pretty much the entire day watching my cnn interactive map and sweating anxiously at the numbers. in fact, i'm still watching that map and telling indiana and north carolina to hurry their lazy arses up and call it. how hard can it be to say (at almost 100% reported) who has clinched it? fer feck's sake, florida finally had the nads to turn blue at 95% reported (i think it was), as did virginia, why the smeg can't you? the coolest moment, was after yelling "he's got virginia!" i refreshed the page, not one minute later to see the entire west coast turn from light grey (still voting) to blue (democrat) and catapault obama into the majority! i was quite literally jumping around and yelling "victory". it was a fabulous day and reminded me of my excitement at watching our very own elections this time last year. i'm hoping the change really is for the good.

the third thing i'm doing is attempting to transfer my music from my laptop onto my newly acquired ipod. however, either itunes hates me more than it used to, or the bloody device is fubar. reckons it can't read or write from it, so i'm having to scan it for "bad sectors" and the like. i'm not keen to reformat just yet as i want to get the songs on it, off it first. that way, i don't lose the ones i actually want to keep and can dump the rest. i've already dumped about 2000 of the files on it. mainly language things, and i'm not in a mad rush to learn italian at this stage, i'm still faultering through my french studies. and i mean "faultering" ;) with luck i can do the swapsies and all will work out fine and dandy. otherwise i might be a little bit sad. of course, all is not lost, i still have my iriver of awesome, so it's not all sour grapes.

well, once i've finished this, my second glass of wine, i am kind of obligated to have a third. the reason being that i'm drinking for others who are only able to intoxicate themselves vicariously through others due to ailments or work duties or plain and simple abstinence. that is fine by me, i feel like it's not that bad a thing to do, and they're only half glasses anyway. plus, i'm celebrating a victorious, uh, victory, an historic victory of awesomeness. i'm soooo pleased that usania voted the way it did, i don't want to think of what might have been had it gone the 'other way'.

i could hear the collective sigh of relief from my usanian friends when everything turned blue.

~Kits~ (i gotta work on closure)
today was melbourne cup day. for those who don't know anything about it, you're not really missing much. it's a horse race. that's right. a race involving horses. better still, if you happen to be victorian, the state in which melbourne is the capital, you get the day off work to bet on the ponies, sip champagne, nibble on canapes and, if you're a "lady", walk around in the most bizarre head wear this side of a scifi or anime convention! here's a wiki on it, because i'm mostly too lazy and non caring to bother giving you a proper - thing - on it.

now, in my most traditional of traditions relating to this "big race", i forgot it was on until i checked facebook and everyone's status messages were about their fancy duds and gambling debts and neglected to watch/listen/care about the race itself, choosing instead to cut my hair and have a shower. however, i did indulge a little bit of the old "crackers and cheese" in a mid afternoon capacity. not because i had neither won nor lost anything, but because i was hungry and it was all i could find in the fridge. as you can see, i have a great interest in the "biggest of all pony stampedes".

though, you've got to love the names racing horses have.

the ponies from 2004. couldn't find the list from this year... not that i've really tried all that hard )

i shall draw you're attention to horse number 8 (this list is in finishing positions). quite clearly, this horse does not live up to its' name. i believe some thought should be put into names such as this one. perhaps if it was a consistant winner, then a name like that would be appropriate, however, i don't know enough about the horse to be able to make much of a judgment on it. not that this shall stop me from doing so. hence, i'm suggesting a name along the lines shouldhavetriedharder or ithinkican as a replacement for the poorly named catchmeifyoucan.

so, there you have it. that's my "run down" of a race i stopped caring about in primary school when we used to have a classroom pool. the kiddies would pull horses names out of a hat, and stick them onto a poster on the wall of the classroom. then when we returned to school on wednesday, we'd see who the winners and losers were. i don't recall ever winning anything at all, but there were many years in a row where i scored the trifecta. would have been nice to know what all that meant when i was seven years old, i might not have had to worry too much about anything at all. oh well, i suppose there's always next year...but i doubt it.

i have a shiny new windshield on my car now. not exactly the best thing i wanted to start november off doing, but unfortunately, due to the 36cm crack down the centre of said windshield, i had very little choice in the matter. however, it now means that my car has had three brand new shinys added to it since i bought it three years ago. soon to be four when i take it to the mechanic next and fork over the gdp of a small country.

my brain is dysfunctional today. number of reasons, the main one being that i didn't get to bed til after 5am, having walked home from clayfield where i had spent the previous evening chillaxing with some of my favourite actors and ingesting richard III. was nicely done. so right now i'm somewhat drowsy and can't remember most of whatever it was i wanted to say.

best try for a nap now while i still can. hopefully i won't get told off for doing that, like i got told off for having a piss earlier. but that's a story for another time.

if a shepherd's pie is a pie made with lamb, what's a shepherd's pie made with kangaroo called?

i'm in the midst of my first ever shepherd's pie making experience, and as i don't particularly like lamb or sheep meat, but adore the flesh of the comely kangaroo, i'm using macromince©. so, aside from creating a culinary first in my life (and kitchen) and totally ignoring the "traditional" recipe, i'm trying to work out a name for said foodage. would it be considered a "jackaroo pie"? or a "stockman's pie"? i think it needs a totally australian name, but i can't think of one.
ingrediments are as follows (in an effort to help the naming process):
1kg of macromince
1 carrot thinly sliced
1 onion roughly chopped
3 mushrooms roughly chopped
1tsp olive oil
pinch of salt
1 tsp 4 mix pepper freshly ground (black, white, red & green)
1/2 tsp cumin
1/2 tsp coriandre
pinch of chilli powder
pinch of mixed herbs
1 cup red wine (approx.)

topping will include:
5 peeled and boiled medium size potatos
approx. 40gm butter
pinch of mixed herbs
1/2 cup milk (approx.)
1/2 cup cheese (approx)
any ideas will be greatly appreciated and credit shall be given to the person/s who help me to create a name for this dish!
